Photographing the moment of shutdown
I'd like to think that on every shoot that I do, I can improve on the way it had maybe been done before. This assignment was to photograph student houses for letting, so we are not talking celebrity status interiors, but the client wanted a clean and fresh feel to the images, with a hint of lifestyle.
So with a few props to liven up the refurbished rooms I produced a batch of images including those you can see above. Received by my client the next day, he sent me an email:
. . . you are trusted to photograph the robes of Henry Vll and Catherine of Aragon!
The image above is a detail from the vestments of Catherine of Aragon, first wife of King Henry Vlll. Below you can see a 'Book of Hours' from 1430, the Felt Hat of Thomas More, the robes of Henry Vll and a medieval Book of Holy Medicine from 1354!
These and many other priceless items were entrusted to my portable studio and knowledge of scientific photography kicked in to handle vacuum encased artefacts, bent parchments, glazed 'Durers' and thumbnail sized jewellery. All destined for a book to be published in the not too distant future.
. . . and a word from the client:
Creator of untold amounts of imagery produced for some lovely appreciative clients. Fond of good food, good company and enjoying what's out there.
